random thoughts about random sports

I will start off with my opinion about the Atlanta Braves.
I think the Braves are playing very hard all the time, however, they are not very talented at this point in time. The pitching staff is full of rookie relievers and two veterans, one which hasn't been good in several years(Johnson) and another (Grilli) who still has something left in the tank. I am guessing that Grilli will be traded to a contender later in the season.
The starting staff is average. I like Alex Wood and Shelby Miller, and Tehran is a good 3rd starter. The other two guys have to come through and I just don't know about that.
our centerfielders, Young and Maybin , are better that BJ, but still wont hit much, they never have. Kelly Johnson and Gomes in left field are two players who could barely find jobs in the off season, Only Freeman. Markakis, and Simmons are every day starters in the big leagues.
Now, I am also tired of the Braves trying to make Freddie Freeman the face of the Braves. That title should go to the best player on the team, and that is not Freddie. Until I see him drive in 100 runs, until I see him hit 300, until I see him lead by doing more than hugging, well I just have to go with Andrelton Simmons, who is the best shortstop in baseball since Ozzie Smith and is also hitting in the 270's this year. It is his team right now.
With state playoff baseball starting up, I have a few things to say about that
Veterans thrashes Perry for a region championship. David Coffey, the best baseball coach in the area not named Hiller, found a way to win a big game AGAIN
Rutland played the best game I have seem them play in three years and beat Jackson and hold a number two seed and get a home series. Watch Codie Rozier a smooth fielding shortstop to key tha Hurricanes, along with Nick Simmons and Malik Bond on the mound.
Mount de Sales is a team I am just not sure of. They certainly deserve to make the playoffs
FPD looks like they are in despite losing to Stratford this week.
Stratford will be having sleepless nights waiting to see if they make the tournament. They were 16 last week and 16 make it in. But they did beat FPD and that shouldn't hurt
Cheers for the weekend
