I saw one  of the weirdest high school basketball games I have seen in quite some time tonight when the Kendrick girls squared off with Rutland.
Kendrick has only lost once in the last few years and that was a few weeks ago. They led 16-0 after the first quarter, and 31-4 at the half. But somehow, Rutland head coach Johnny Dixon got his girls to come out and play inspired basketball and outscored Kendrick 18-2 in the third quarter. I am not sure what he said to them, but all of a sudden the Canes showed a great deal of athleticism and actually beat the Kendrick girls at their own game with full court pressure and creating turnover. Unfortunately, after cutting the lead to 8 in the fourth quarter, the Canes ran out of gas and were outscored 16-0 over the last four minutes and lost 53-30.
The game took forever to play, mainly because of the combined 77 turnovers. Rutland turned if over 46 times, but Dixon said the last time they played they turned it over 53 times.
The Rutland boys are very very good. The three players listed in my top 10 today all had great games. Ty'lik Evans had a triple double with 23 points, 10 assists and 10 steals. He looked like the best player in the city tonight, but is in a bit of a shooting slump, hitting only 3-of-12 from behind the 3-point line. Jeremy Braswell had 21 points, while Dallas Smith had 20 points and 11 rebounds. Timori Northcutt scored in double figures and had what might have been his first dunk judging from the smile on his face. Right after the dunk he had another breakaway, but layed that one up. Coming to he bench after a timeout, his team was giving him grief, but he was smiling and said he was exhausted,
Rutland scored 100 points for the first time of the year and it was quite a show of high intensity basketball

TOP 10 High SCHOOL Basketball players in Macon

Remember
MY OPINION ONLY :)
10-Jason Olivas- Central Fellowship- A 6'1 guard who can shoot the ball. He has great quickness and puts up alot of points, but it is a little difficult to judge just how good he is because of the competition he plays against. But , he is very talented

9. Tyler Wheeler- Westside- I have seen the Seminoles play twice this year, and Wheeler, who plays tight end on the football team, is a very impressive player. When Isaw him play last year, I thought he would have a great senior year, and while it has been solid, it has not been outstanding. But watch for Wheeler and the Noles to step up in the playoffs.

8. Justin Slocum- Southwest-  Another impressive player, but the Patriots have not stepped up as a team as of yet, so Slocum gets lost in the crowd. He is a very explosive kid, who has a knack of finding the ball in the post. Lets see if Southwest  cn make it to the playoffs.

7. Dallas Smith- Rutland- The third of the big three at Rutland. Smith might be the best dunker in Macon. He understands his role on the team, has usually has a few highlight plays every game.

6. Khavon Moore- Westside- The first time I was going to cover Westside this year, I pulled the roster from max preps and saw a 6'8 freshman lìsted as a guard. Yes, he is 6'8 with point guard skills. As I watched him, I was thinking, ok hes a nice young player, but that was before, he made a move that honestly made me go OH MY GOD. The bad part was that he didnt finish at the rim. Maybe the player with the most potential on the list.

5.Anterius McCoy- Central- Flat out old fashioned 3-point bomber, who is not scared to miss a few. This kid can score and pay defense, but will need to get stronger if he wants to play D1 basketbal. But, hes only a sophomore

4. Jeremy Braswell- Rutland- He is almost an after thought at times for the Canes, and obviously gets overlooked, but one cant overlook the 20 points a game he is averaging.

3. Derrick Evans Jr- plays quarterback for the football team, and point guard o the basketball team. He scores when he needs to score, but is just as happy to  play defense and pass the basketbal. But, he can score.

2. Ty'Lik Evans- describe him in one word ? FAST. Describe him in two words? SOOOO Fast. He is only 5'7, but he is the engine that Makes Rutland go. He has been in a bit of a shooting slump, but scored over 30 the last time out. He probably loses three assists a night because he plays at a different speed and see alot of his passes bounce of peoples hands.

1A- Santez Kinder-Northeast- A quiet scorer. You watch him play and you think ,ok he had a nice game, and then you look at the stat sheet and he had 38. He is averging 27 for a Northeast team that has lacked consistency, but Kinder brings it every single night.

1B- Quintez Cephus- Sratford- Anyone who says he isnt the real deal doesnt really know basketball. Sure he plays at Stratford, who is brand new to the GHSA, but this guy could be the star on any basketball team in Macon. I honestly believe he could average 35 a game, but he is very focused about keeping his team involved. He didnt shoot well the other night against Tattnall, but still had 21 points, 9 rebounds 4 assists, and 3 steals. He is the unquestioned LEADER of this team.

There ya go , hope ya like, tell your friends about the cite, and feel free to offer opinions and candidates for the list.
Now, go watch some high school basketball

friday night basketball

Tonight I will be covering the Rutland and Kendrick games, which gives me a chance to hopefully see  good girls game, although Kendrick has only lost once in the last two years. However the Canes have a great coach in Johnny Dixon and I expect him to be able to find a way to keep the game close.
The Rutland boys will probably be trying to score 100 tonight and that might be he only thing to watch for in the second half. They are explosive, scoring over 90 points tuesday, when Jeremy Braswell and Ty'Lik Evans both hd over 30 points. The Canes have a team full of athletes, and I think they can make a deep playoff run again this year.
I will try and add another blog tonight after I get home. Now go watch some high school basketball.

THE FIRST BLOG

Welcome to my sports blog.
This is something that I have thought about doing for a long time, but I am ready to try it.
I will focus strongly on Macon high school sports. I feel like we have a wealth of talent in the community, and I am interested in writing about teams, players, coaches, and whatever else needs to be written about.
My target audience will be players and sports fans in Macon to start with. After that we will see how it goes. I cover high school sports, and I have been a huge sports fan all of my life. Hopefully I will give you something that will interest you. I am sure you will not always agree with my opinions, and feedback will be appreciated.
My first business will be to list a top 10 for players in Macon, and I have already listed my first one on Twitter. My twitter account is @jokos007
Here is hoping for an interesting, informative page
