Ok I have listened for a long time and at times I have even believed all the hype.
But after taking a close look, I wont buy it anymore.
Are the Braves on the right path ?
I think so
Are the Braves full of sure thing prospects ?
I mean, who can say that. That's why they are prospects.
It all started with Matt Wisler coming up last year and hearing all the hype about how good he was going to be and he has all the tools to be great.
He now is a mop up relief pitcher who will probably be traded very soon. Sure he is only 23 or 24, but he just cant seem to get it done at the major league level.
Aaron Blair was not quite as hyped but he was another young arm who had fizzled out in the matter of a year.
But its not only the pitchers. I feel sorry for Dansby Swanson who I think will still be a very good player, but the Braves put him on billboards as one of the faces of the team and he just was not ready for it. They rushed the guy up to the majors to be that face and now today he is back in the minors, passed up by another hot hitting young kid.
Yes the Braves farm is loaded with great "prospects" but they need some of these "prospects" to live up to the hype..
I am sure we will be seeing Ronald Acuna in the majors before long, despite the fact that he is 19 years old. The guys has flown through the minor leagues and has continued to hit, even at the AAA level. Ozzie Albies will probably be up soon and could be starting if the decide to get rid of Brandon Phillips. That is another move I don't think they should make because Albies is only 20 years old. I mean let these kids grow up.
I took a close look a the Braves top 30 prospects. Kolby Allard is the number three prospect and he is all of 19 years old also. He has been decent this year in AA with as 3.75 era, while recently drafted Kyle Wright jumped to number four the minute he signed. That seemed kind of odd that a kid that just got drafted could move up the prospect list so fast. Hopefully he will live up to the hype.
Anyways the top 30 is filled with young kids between the ages of 17 and 23 and of course, if four or five live up to the hype, the Braves will be fine. But lets remember, figuring out who will make a great major leaguer is a science that no one has mastered. Lets hope that Mike Soroka is not Matt Wisler.
Ok talk about hype.
The Metro Diner is the most hyped restaurant to come to Macon in forever.
So I had to try it.
I went to eat dinner and they were absolutely slammed on a Wednesday night. I got the fried chicken, mashed potatoes and mac and cheese and I would say that the food was average at best. I thought the chicken was a little salty, and the mac and cheese was average. The mashed potatoes and gravy was excellent. If you are going, be prepared to sit and wait for the food for about 30 minutes. Yesterday I waited 32 minutes. Yes I had to be exact to let my 50 readers know how ling the wait was.
So after being underwhelmed I decided to try the place for breakfast because Madison wanted to try it. So this morning we went back. Madison had some kind of French toast which she rated a 6 and I had the corned beef hash and poached eggs and also grits. Do not get the corned beef hash. It just was not good. The potatoes were rather hard and the corned beef did not have a good flavor to it. The grits were great though. I thought the speed of getting the food to us was a bit slow, considering no one was in the place, and you know everyone is in a hurry in the morning.
I wont give up on the place quite yet. The management is very engaging (although no one asked me if I liked the food this morning} and I think it is just a matter of finding a few favorites. Try it out and see what you think.
Lastly I am also convinced that instant replay has made baseball more boring. I mean it has taken the human element out of the game. Wasn't part of the fun of baseball being pissed of about a call for the rest of the night ? Now we don't get any of that. Managers don't get thrown out of games anymore because they cant argue a replay. Managers don't even argue anymore. I liked the human element and I think baseball misses it too.
Good days to all my friends

its almost time
I didn't realize how ready I was for football until I stopped at a fruit stand the other day.
Yes it's true, fruit stands somehow bring out the football in me and I must say, since then I have been craving it.
Now why did a fruit stand motivate me for high school football?
Because a football player was running the fruit stand, recognized me and started telling me how good this particular team was going to be this year.
But I am not going to tell you what team he was affiliated with.
So I send out some tweets about who would be the surprise or quality teams in Macon and I get pretty heavy response for this time of year. Then I start actually looking around to see and get a feel for who might be good.
That's when I realize that this could be a huge year for Macon schools, because it seems as if everyone will be a little better.
Here is the what I remember from last year and a little of what I have learned so far, with more to come very soon.
FPD has a senior quarterback in Dalton Cox that will throw for a bunch of yards this year and he may help the Vikings get out of the 7 to 8 win season and take a step up. I think anything less than a second round playoff appearance is a disappointment for FPD.
Stratford has Tobe Umerah and obviously a whole lot more on both sides of the ball and I feel like they will be much improved over last year. I really think they may be the best team in Macon this year. Explosive and big backs and kids who can catch the football could make for an interesting year.
How can Tattnall be very good this year after losing so many seniors/ Word is they may not miss a beat with Mack leading the way and a veteran o and d line. But last year was special and I think it could be tough for the Trojans to be that good this year.
Southwest has a junior quarterback in Jordan Slocum who has already started for two years and it is time for him to lead the Patriots into the playoffs, while Central has a new coach in town, just like Northeast. I don't know much about Centrals coach but Ashley Harden at Northeast is a straight winner.
Westside is Westside and I am anxious to see their great new quarterback while MDS had Adrian Hardwick, who may be the best little back no one knows about.
Cant wait to get out on the field and see all the great players and coaches. Many Many more blogs to come about the football season
Its only a month away before Mount de Sales plays Howard and Central get FPD. I cant wait

Finally
I know it and I am sorry.
My loyal fans (20 or so) have had to wait over a month for me to get off my butt and write a simple blog.
Forgive me I will try to not let it happen again.
It's not that I didn't think about it at least once a week, but it was just that I could not think of anything to put on paper.
But now, today, I am going to muster up all of my inner feelings and try to get something done.
But don't expect it to entertain you, or then again it might.
But really, look at this as sort of a rant than a blog.
One thing I have been noticing from my friends on facebook (and I enjoy most of it) is the fact that something different is going on with their kids who play sports. Now I know that everyone who is anyone these days that is at least 7 years old must be playing a summer sport. Lets just see how many of them I can get off of my facebook page.
Travel Baseball
AAU basketball
Club Soccer
Club Swimming
Travel Volleyball
Off season football workouts
Math Team
History Team
Robotics Summer work
Summer Etiquette training
Golf Tournaments
Tennis Tournaments
Travel Softball
Summer eating championships
All of these are accurate and I am sure I have missed some.
And these don't start when you become a teenager, these start at six years old.
ALL SUMMER LONG.
Now I was a pretty good athlete a long time ago, and my baseball season ended with all-stars and that was that. After that was over it was time to be a kid. I mean we still played baseball and tons of basketball and spent the day on bikes and things like that. You remember bikes don't you? Well I am not sure kids do today. Outside exercise has been replaced by xbox and play stations. "Mommm I cant go outside today because it's hot and I have travel ball practice for four hours tonight." Ohh ok. I get it.
Actually I don't get it at all.
I know it's a different time now and specializing in one sport is seen as the way to go. But I strongly disagree, not that anyone cares. Let the kids have fun. Teach them how to ride a bike (do they do that anymore ) and get them outside. Let them play a sport in the summer, but lay off the summer long sports activities and give their bodies a break. Unless you have stock in Tommy John surgeries it will do everyone good.
Ok one more rant.
I got my first ring at age 24 when I got married. I got my second ring at age 25 when I lost my first ring. That's another story. My last ring came when I was in my 30's and a softball team I was on won a National Championship, which back then was pretty cool.
But lets think about that national championship. I think they're were probably 35 or so teams in this tournament and you had to qualify to be in it, but I don't recall any teams from Japan or China or even California in it. So maybe it wasn't a real national championship.
Some of my proudest moments as a parent were my sons national championships while swimming in college. He got an individual national champion ring as a junior and the next year he won a team national championship and got another ring.
So why now are kids 6 years old getting rings for winning some crazy titles world or national championship that no one even knows about ?
I think rings have replaced trophies and somehow nobody told the parents they were paying for the damn rings too. I had closets full of trophies and I didn't realize til late my mom and dad bought those damn trophies. So if a kid is getting rings at 6 years old, what will they get when they win something important later in life ?
I am thinking a car maybe.
Have a great week people.
