week 6 games

Luke Hetrick (WGXA- SPORTS ANCHORMAN) 33-9
Jonathan Perez (WMAZ- SPORTS ANCHORMAN) 32-10
TUCKER SARGENT (WMGT SPORTS ANCHORMAN)  32-10
JOHN KOSATER (FREELANCER, THE SCHWAM OF SPORTS) 32-10
EVAN WATSON (WGXA- NEWS GUY)                                          30-12
MASON PRINCE (WGXA-SPORTS ANCHORMAN)                      30-12
BRAD HARRISON (FREELANCER, AND I THINK HE OWNS NAVICENT) 30-12
LOLA MY DOG (BED TESTER, COUCH TESTER, SECURITY GUARD) 28-14

I HAVE THIS UNREAL bunch of game pickers here don't I . It is definitely the cream of the crop and I find myself staying up at night trying to figure out ways to beat all of these college educated sports guys.
I could just write one of Luke's picks differently than he gives them to me. I don't think he reads my blog so he would probably never know. I mean somehow, he is now the man that our local ESPN station calls to talk about the high school football games in the area. That hurts, that hurts deeply. Is it because he is so pretty ? I don't see why that would matter because its radio. Does he attract more female viewers ? I doubt that is possible because the man is almost married. I am betting his mother doesn't listen to him on the radio and if I was on the radio my mother would listen , so I would actually be bringing in at least one more viewer than he does. Is it because he has this silky sweet broadcasters voice ? I don't think so because he has this accent that makes it clear he is not from around here. People from the south want to listen to other people from the south.
So as you can tell, I am jealous of Luke Hetrick and well, everyone will just have to deal with that. That is why I want to beat him so so so bad in picking high school football games.

I know I am possessed by Luke Hetrick. But the rest of the folks in here don't intimidate me. Jonathan Perez is like the nicest person from Miami I have ever met and I doubt he could hurt anyone on purpose or by accident. Tucker Sargent is the same way but he is from Alabama so he thinks he is a tough guy. But he's not at all. Evan Watson is so nice he oozes niceness out of the cuticles in his finger nails. Brad Harrison is just Brad Harrison and Mason Prince is from Oklahoma and you know only two things come from Oklahoma. I mean this guy does talk openly about his love for Baker Mayfield. then again you gotta like Baker Mayfield because he walks up to Baylor and tells them he's gonna spank them, and then he does.

picks of the week

the only difference in all seven games between the leaders is the WL-Howard game. I thought we had some close games that would make people think but evidently we have clear cut winners in most of the games.

I am heating up with my stone cold locks and I have hit on two straight after missing early and often early in the season. I guess I have got to pick the game that was closest in the poll and that is the Howard game. I have friends in Dudley and at WL that assure me that WL will win this game. Well this is the same Doug friend that assured me twice last year that WL would win and they lost both times. I really really think Barney Hester has turned the corner at Howard and I love Jeremiah Kelly and Quintin Sewell. They are both improving every game and I see something in Kelly that I don't see a lot. This could end up being a let down for me and Howard, but I got to say,,,, the stone cold lock of the week is Howard over West Laurens.
Geez I hope I am right on this one.

Tidbits from the high school world

I have talked to a lot of high school coaches and players over the last few weeks and I come up with some very interesting tidbits when we have these conversations. So I am giving all of you the info I gather on here. None of it is really newspaper worthy, but it is definitely interesting I think

Lets start off with the most controversial topic, which is the kneeling during the national anthem. Now this is not a topic I really wanted to get into , but as I was having lunch with a friend the other day (yes I have friends) We started to discuss this issue and since this person has a son the plays high school football, I thought it would be interesting to see what high school coaches had to say on the topic. So a simple text went out. "Hello coach, I was wondering and this is off the record how you would handle a player wanting to kneel during the national anthem." I sent this text out to six coaching friends in Middle Georgia, once ex football coach and one principal in the area. Out of the eight people I sent it to, six answered within 10 minutes of the text going out.

It seems as if a lot of the coaches have avoided the question altogether because of the eight texts I sent, five of them informed me that their players on in the locker rooms during the national anthem. That is not dome to avoid the anthem and possible kneeling. That's just the way they have always done it.
I had one coach tell me that he would just have to respect the players beliefs if he chose to kneel, while the ex coach gave me enough information for this entire blog. He started off by say he understood why it started in the first place with Kaepernick but he also said that personally he thinks that the qb should not have put his livelihood and other jobs in jeopardy. he also said that until this country addresses racism, the nation will remain in national turmoil. He ended by saying he hopes all of this doesn't move into the high school and college levels. Powerful Stuff here.

So on a lighter side things are starting to get a bit interesting around the football map. Jones County is still being Jones County, although they were tested by Eagles Landing, Warner Robins gets tested this week with a difficult game against Coffee, while we may get to see if Howard is a player or a pretender as they travel to West Laurens. Tattnall survived a score last week, while Stratford handled a test. However they have Mount de Sales, which serves as a chance for the Cavaliers to get out of the dark and be a contender.
I am worried about Tattnall. I think Wilkinson will challenge them a bit this week and then an easy one against Twiggs, but after that they run in FPD. Tattnall gave up 300 yards passing to Washington Wilkes, so what will Dalton Cox do to them ? I mean he could have a really really big night. You have a quarterback with 12 touchdown passes in three games , a beast of an offensive line that can pass protect, and receivers that can jump over people. Greg Moore, throw the football, throw it every play if you must. You have an all  state quarterback and everyone knows that the secondary is the weakest part of a class A high school football team. I just don't think Tattnall can handle that, nor anyone else. Right now Cox is throwing the ball a pedestrian 22 times a game. If you have Tom Brady you have to use him. Of course I am not a coach and barely a writer, but that is what I would be doing.

It is really good to see Teldrick Ross get the attention he is getting. It seems like every time I open up twitter, someone else has offered him. If I were Mercer, I would be living at his house right now. This kid is electricity on a football field and he patiently waited his turn. Jones County is in the midst of a magical football period, and that is because of Justin Rogers and nobody else. The man came in and changed the face of high school football and was able to do it very quickly.

Northeast also has a chance to step out of mediocrity this weekend but Dodge County will be a huge test for Ashley Harden. I am covering that game and I am excited to see the new look Raiders.

Westside has a must win game against Jackson on the road this weekend and even though Peach County beat them up, I saw some bright signs from a sputtering offense. Victor Dixon and Jaylon Barden are a very interesting combo to say the least and both of them are just sophomores. /

Oh how I hope that the Howard Huskies are ready to step up and get a win in yet another big game. The Huskies have never made the playoffs, never ever, not even a first round, and this is the year that should change that. Howard was a bad bad football team but they seem to have turned the corner. But West Laurens is a MUST win for them. Its time for Quintin Sewell and Jeremiah Kelly to show that they are special . Do you hear me Howard ?

I will close this with a softball  line or two.  Tattnall Square will win state this year and Joey Hiller is the best baseball coach/softball coach/recruiter in Middle Georgia.  They are loaded this year and for years to come and the others just wont be able to keep up with what he has. Sorry but its just the truth.

week 5 super Picke ems

I must admit that one of the biggest ego boosters I get is actually being recognized as the author of this blog or as a sportswriter for the newspaper.
I mean I guess everyone likes to be recognized for something that they work hard on and when someone walks up to me and says that they are faithful readers of my blog, it actually means a lot to me.
I had that happen last night when a Stratford parent saw me and let me know he is a reader. I thanked him for reading and I admit, yeah I was on a little bit of a high for the next few hours.

The blog is getting good numbers with 150 to 200 readers on most stories. Sure I would like to have more but I am satisfied with what I am getting. The playoffs are around the corner so that will pick up im sure.

Now for the picks
Things have really heated up over the last week or so and as of right now we have four people tied for the lead. Jonathan Perez, Luke Hetrick,Tucker Sargent, and yours truly are all 26-9, which is right at 75% accuracy. Brad Harrison and Evan Watson are only one game back while Mason Prince is only two games back. Lola my damn dog is killing her self by only picking dog or dog like mascots. I tried to tell her but dogs don't listen very good sometimes.

This weeks games  are very interesting and we will have lots of different picks. The Northeast vs Bleckley and Southwest against Dodge are bound to have a lot of differences as well as Perry and Veterans. THAT MAKES FOR GOOD PICKING

HERE are the games for this week

                                                    Jonathan               Luke              Koknows                Tucker
ELCA-Jones County                     Jones                    Jones                  Jones                     Jones
Northeast-Bleckley                     Bleckley              Bleckley             Northeast              Northeast
Southwest-Dodge                      Southwest               Dodge                 Dodge                   Dodge
Veterans-Perry                              Perry                    Perry                   Perry                     Perry
Stratford-Lincoln                       Stratford               Stratford              Stratford               Stratford
Tattnall-Wash Wilkes                 Tattnall                Tattnall                Tattnall                 Tattnall
Peach-Westside                            Peach                   Peach                   Peach                    Peach

                                                      Evan                    Brad                  Mason                    Lola
ELCA-Jones Co                            Jones                    Jones                   Jones                     Jones
Northeast-Bleckley                    Northeast              Northeast            Northeast               Bleckley
Southwest-Dodge                      Southwest             Southwest              Dodge                   Dodge
Veterans-Perry                              Perry                   Veterans                Perry                    Perry
Stratford-Lincoln                        Stratford               Stratford              Stratford                Lincoln
Tattnall- Wash Wilkes                Tattnall                 Tattnall                 Tattnall            Wash Wilkes
Peach-Westside                            Peach                     Peach                   Peach                   Peach

Now I finally picked a winner in a tough game when I picked Peach to beat Mary Persons at Mary Persons and that happened in convincing fashion. That give me one in a row. Look I could pick one of the easier games but I wont do that. I always pick a tough game. So for my cold stone lock of the week, I will go with the Perry Panthers and new head coach Kevin Smith to take down Veterans. You can count on it happening because its a cold stone lock

the fab 22

I have thought about ways to recognize the top players in Macon and that is not an easy task at all. I mean I do not see these kids every week and I only see numbers. I think I am to the point where I have seen all the Macon schools play (except Stratford and Tattnall) so I thought I may as well get this out.
so here it is
THE FAB 22 of Macon only.

22)Nolan Ussery- The quarterback from Northeast has some players around him and the Raiders are winning again. His numbers will not blow you away but he is the man running the offense for an undefeated team. That was enough to get him a spot.

21)Josiah Cotton- The Mount de Sales running back broke out for over 200 yards against Aquinas last Friday, leading the Cavaliers to their biggest win in years. He could be a mover in the numbers game if he continues to put up, well numbers.

20)Kendarius Murphy- Central has not won a game but it is not because of this two way play who is a great catch and run threat for Centrals offense. I have seen him have huge games against Howard and do nothing against FPD so he lands right here at number 20.

19)Jordan Slocum- The junior quarterback from Southwest is trying to lead the Patriots into the playoffs for the second straight year. He is an exciting player, but I need to see him more accurate with his throws. Still he has a great chance to move up the list.

18)Kanuri Williams-explosive wideout for Central who can score on any play, if they can get him the ball, which is a struggle.

17)Omar Jones- a big kid who needs to step up against Peach County this week if the Westside is to have any chance to pull off an upset. I think I rank him so low because he had a dreadful game against Southwest when he could not hold on to the football. He has bounced back however with some decent games.

16)Maurice Gordon-He is a big tall receiver for FPD  and he already has 256 yards of receiving and four touchdowns. I think he can do more though

15)Terrious Miles- One of the keys to a Northeast resurgence, the running back has already gained 350 yards and scored five touchdowns on the season. He is smallish but oh so quick.

14)DeAndre Shelton- Its hard to  pick out defensive players but easy to pick out this man. He averages close to 12 tackles a game for the 4-1(yes I said 4-1) Howard Huskies.

13)Jaylon Barden- Just a sophomore but he is the big play guy for the Westside offense. He lit up BEST for 116 yards of pass catching. Can he do it against Peach County ?

12)Quintin Sewell-Love this kid who had led Howard to a 4-1 start, with over 500 yards of offense and 11 touchdowns. He finds a way to win like he did against Central when he just took the game over.

11)Vincent McCarthy-376 yards of rushing and 6 touchdowns for Northeast. Look at Northeast and Ashley Harden winning football games again. This may be the team to make more of a playoff run than anyone else in Macon

10)Tyler Jordan- the Stratford running back has 266 yards on the ground and five touchdowns and Stratford is quietly the best private school team in Macon this year,

9)Adrian Hardwick- Mount de Sales is off to a 3-1 start and even if Hardwick isn't getting his yards he is still a big part of why they are winning. When defenses start trying to stop Cotton, watch out for Hardwick.

8)Titus Moore-389 yards and 6 touchdowns for one of FPDS main weapons. He has to keep putting up numbers because FPD has to score to win, which means they don't stop anyone.

7)LaKelvin Clark- Bruising Westside runner who has gone for 245 yards in 4 games. Lets see if he can keep it going this weekend when he gets a heavy heavy load against Peach

6)Randy Green- He is a man who averages 11 tackles a game and is the no doubt leader if a Southwest defense that shut out Central.

5)Destin Mack- I know I will catch some grief about having this kid so high but lets face it guys, he is 90 percent of the Tattnall offense. He has to carry the load which could lead to a big season, but I just don't see how Tattnall can get over some huge humps this year and beat teams they beat a year ago. If they find a way Destin Mack will be right in the middle of it.

4)Jeremiah Kelly- You may not even know who this guy is but I am telling you he may be THE most explosive back in Macon or MIddle Georgia. I saw him fumble the first time he carried the ball against Central and he was pissed off the rest of the night and he ran harder when he was pissed off. I know you don't remember James Brooks, but that is who he reminded me of the first time I saw him.

3)Javoris Smith- I know a lot of you may not know who this kid is but he may be THE most explosive player in the area. He is tiny and may go 145 pounds but the Southwest  running back/receiver/defensive back/punt returner/kick returner can make things happen. Yes he is the same Javoris Smith that starred at Twiggs  County a year ago. He is just explosive.

2)Dalton Cox- the senior is off to an amazing year with 966 yards passing, 12 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions. Oh yeah he is completing 74% of his passes which is truly amazing. But the schedule gets tougher very soon and we will see if young Dalton and his team can respond with more wins.

1)Tobe Umerah- If he is good enough for Stanford he is good enough for me. Last games he had 7 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 1 caused fumble, 1 fumble recovery, and one safety. He did all that depite the fact that he had 4 guys on him. He is a man and number one is where he deserves.

OK that's it, let me know who I forgot and I will give them a shout out. If you don't want to do it here, text me at 478-394-1155.

who is for real

So as I was hanging out this weekend I ran into a few people that actually read my blog and actually like my high school rankings. But as we talked about things, one question that kept coming up was why Tattnall was ranked so high when they may not be as good as the ranking. Yes it is a well known fact that they are undefeated, but the schedule has been, well , its been terrible actually. But I mean my question is can you really take away the fact that they are undefeated even though they have played a crappy schedule. I think at this point you cant. It will catch up with them soon enough.
Lets focus on the four private schools in the GHSA. I want you to see exactly what these teams have seen so far and what they will see.
Tattnall
The Trojans are undefeated so far but the three schools they have played have a combined 1-11 record. The next two schools they play are a combined 2-5. So lets see, that means the first five game the Trojans play will be against schools with a combined 3-16 record.
Stratford
The Eagles schedule is a tad bit more difficult but not much. So far they are 3-0 and the teams they have played are a combined 2-9. They have Lincoln County next and they are 1-2 but then they have Mount de Sales and they are 3-1. So the combined first five game record for them will be 6-12.

FPD
The Vikings are 3-1 and lost to the only team they have played that has a win. The combined 4 game record of the teams they have played is 3-12 and the next two teams are 1-7 combined. That equals up to 4-19 over the first six games.

Mount de Sales
The ever improving Cavaliers have played teams that are currently 6-11 and take away 0-5 Pacelli and it is 6-6. They played Howard a close game and Howard has proved to be a very good football team at 4-1.

Does having such a weak schedule help or hurt a program. Last season it was much the same thing and Tattnall made a nice playoff run. I think it has to do a lot with a team that needs confidence and a team that doesn't. Tattnall, last year was coming off a dreadful season and they needed wins to build that confidence. This year they are playing very inexperienced kids so being able to play such a soft schedule early has been good for them. The schedule will get tough soon enough.

FPD worries me because they lost to the only decent team they  played. I have been told 20 times at least that FPD was the better team but they lost the game at home. They have the quarterback and they have the receivers and they have big athletic kids so  why cant they win games they are supposed to ?

Mount de Sales had the biggest win in years when they beat Aquinas last Friday to move to 3-1. If we are talking about a team that needs confidence this is one of them. I feel like they can start believing Keith Hatcher when he tells them that they can compete with the better programs. They ran the ball right at Aquinas with Cotton going over 200 yards and that is the brand of physical football that they have not been able to play over the last few years.

Lets not even make it a question that all of these teams have to get by Stratford to win the region , but I think the schedule hurts them a little bit. The Eagles need to be playing good football teams every week because they are the cream of the crop this year. You don't have to believe me now but you will believe me later
So who is for real ?
That's a tough question for me right now. I fully believe Stratford is for real but can Mount de Sales take that step and be the number 2 private school team over FPD and Tattnall. I say they are closer but cant make the jump and beat any of the other three.
As far as FPD and Tattnall match the talent and its a landslide for FPD. That however has not mattered lately, especially last year.
I will take Tattnall and that coaching staff to be the second best out of these four

pick that winner

The experts have now picked high school football games for four weeks now and the battle is shaping up already. Eight game experts (including my dog) are within three games of each other, but as the year goes by the games get tougher.
This week is much different than last week when most folks had the same teams winning. Out of the seven games this week, only the Jones County and Warner Robins games are unanimous. All the others are up for grabs.
I am impressed that Luke Hetrick will be on the radio today talking high school football games this week, and it is impressive that the radio station managed to get the man that is currently second in our picks. I  guess Mr. Perez was not available. Luke you are way too pretty to be a radio guy.

So far this year
Jonathan Perez       22-6
Luke Hetrick          21`-7
Tucker Sargent       21-7
Evan Watson          20-8
John Kosater          20-8

Brad Harrison        19-9
Mason Prince         19-9
Lola the Dog          18-10

Now I have had some accusations that Lola the dog is not actually picking games. Well I am saying that that is false. Lola the dog is picking the games. I basically sit down with her and call out the game. If she barks that means she wants the second team I call out and if she doesn't bark she is picking the first team. This is how we communicate. I have to call out the teams nicknames when I do it and so far she always picks the one that has something closest to a dogs name. Therefore she always picks the Jones County Greyhounds and any team that has a Bulldog for a mascot. I mean is has worked pretty well so far for her. She is only three games behind a guy that will talk high school football on the radio.

I think Evan Watson should be highly commended for making time to do our picks this week despite being a storm chaser this week. I have never ever seen a reporter find so many downed trees all over Middle Georgia. Evan be honest, did you knock some of those trees over for the reports ? Did you almost have a tree fall on you ? Cmon man give us a real harrowing tree story.

By the way, yes I admit it, I am jealous of Luke being on the radio to talk about high school football. That is like my dream. I need to keep remembering that sometimes, dreams do come true and maybe it will be soon for me.

Ok here are the picks

                                                        Jonathan             Luke              Tucker             Evan

Howard-Veterans                            Howard              Howard             Howard          Howard
Jones-Woodland                             Jones                  Jones                  Jones             Jones

My stone cold lock of the week has not gone well and its almost a curse for me to pick a team. However, I will come back this week. I am not picking the simple ones so I will say that Peach County is my stone cold lock of the week. Mary Persons at homes is a tough match-up, but I am confident the Trojans are ready for the challenge

middle georgia top 15

It is really difficult to write when you are tired and want to go to sleep, but I know all my fans have been waiting for the new top 15 list to come out, So I have to give them what they want. But I have so many other pressing thoughts in my head that I thought I would share a few of them first.
Please remember that I have not had much sleep the last few days because of this storm and some of these thoughts may be entering my mind because of that. But then again maybe not.
I saw a lady walking a dog this morning and as I looked at the lady all I could think of was, wow that lady is the homeliest lady I have ever seen. Now my question to you is, is the dog upset because he or she is owned by a lady that looks like that. I mean are my dogs looking at me and saying , my god why me, look at that man who I live with. How disgusting is he. I wish I lived with that cute woman down the street that we walk by, Now she is really cool.
Lord I hope not and than you for letting me ramble for a second.
Now for the brand new power poll of high school football
15) Perry- As expected they took it on the chin against Peach County but that's ok. We will see if the Panthers are for real in the next couple of week as they take on Harris County and Veterans. These two games will probably make or break their season.

14)HOCO- I cant keep them out of here and an upset victory of Veterans throws them back in the mix. The Bears have some very good young players with Max Rigby leading the way, but they have to keep the quarterback healthy if they are going to win more than they lose. That may be difficult as they meet up  with Warner Robins this week.

13)Veterans- I have tried to be patient with these guys but they are 2-2 and that loss to HOCO dropes them way down in the poll. Jeremy Horton is having a huge year but the Warhawks need some other playmakers to step up, especially on defense.

12)FPD- Dalton Cox and Titus Moore are having big seasons and the Vikings should cruise to a few more wins before getting into some very difficult games. The early loss has thrown me off of them and for some reason FPD always finds a way to win around 8 or 9 games but no more. This is probably the same thing for another year. Cox has been as good as advertised however and has completed 79% of his passes through three games.

11)Northeast- Ashley Harden is making it work at Northeast just like he made it work at Twiggs County and his team is undefeated, somewhere no Northeast team has been in a long time. They had a game this week against Central which would have been a great inner city matchup, but it was cancelled due to the weather that is no longer here. Northeast is able to run the football with Vincent McCarthy and Terrious Miles and they have a now veteran quarterback in Nolan Ussery. I am smelling a playoff year for the Raiders.

10)Tattnall Square- I was talking to a Tattnall coach after their win over East Laurens last week and my statement was wow you guys are so small. The coach looked at me and said without a smile, yeah we are small but we are slow too. That about describes the Trojans this year, small with just a few playmakers. Destin Mack had better stay healthy this year because I don't know where they turn if he goes down. Tattnall wins because they are Tattnall and that's what they do, plus they have the best coaching staff in this area top to bottom. They have a few more wins before they get into the tough part of their schedule.

9)Westside- The Seminoles were off last week and now it is time for their typical run to the playoffs. That starts this week with a win over BEST

8)Howard- Quintin Sowell is for real and the Huskies will find a way to win against Veterans this week. Then again they could lose by two touchdowns. Jeremiah Kelly may be the best running back in Macon before its all over and I feel like that comeback win over Central a few weeks back has served as a huge confidence builder.

7)Stratford- Mark Fariba just wins football games. I feel like he has a very special team this year and I cant wait to see them play. I am confident they are the best private school in Macon this year and they will enjoy an off week this week before getting into some tougher games.

6)Southwest- I wanted to move them higher because they beat the dog out of Central and knocked the Chargers right out of the top 15. How did they beat Central 40-0. Well they did it with physical football led by Randy Green and quickness led by Javoris Smith. Add a Jordan Slocum at quarterback and that's a pretty good mix. They had their game cancelled this week also.

5)Northside- Not the same Northside team we are used to but should be able to play enough defense to make it to the playoffs.

4) Mary Persons- This weeks game against Peach County is one of the biggest regular season home games they Bulldogs have had in a long time. Unfortunately I just don't think they can beat Peach County. The fact of the matter is however, is that they have a very good football team.

3)Peach County- They wont lose again this year. Hear me they wont lose again this year.

2)WRHS- Fromm is a magic word right now and the Demons have two of them, plus a whole lot of talent all over the football field. They crush HOCO this week

1)Jones County- Jones goes undefeated this year if they get past Stockbridge later this year. Id they do that they can contend for a state championship. Justin Rogers how did you get this done.

fearless picks for another week

Welcome to week four of the only high school pickems in the Middle Georgia area , and with a star studded cast to boot. Right now we have a close battle brewing but WMAZ sports personality holds a one game lead over big time sports superstar from WGXA, the one and only Luke Hetrick. But this is a marathon race and not a sprint and no one will remember who was ahead after week three when it gets to week 10.
WMGT celebrity (now that was funny) Tucker Sargent and superstar sports blogger ME, the man who openly states that he has the number one high school sports blog in Middle Georgia, are both only two games out of the lead, while Red Magic Mason Prince and my dog  Lola sit at only three games out of the lead. Brad Harrison is obviously working way too much at his real job now because he is four games out of the lead.
This weeks games really don't offer much leverage for movement in the standings because most folks feel like the winners are clear cut. Only one person (well not a person, but a dog) feels like Social Circle can beat Mount de Sales, while Veterans in the popular pick in the big rivalry game between HOCO and Veterans.
The best game I of the week may be Southwest and Central. The Chargers are in must win mode almost after two straight losses including a gut wrenching loss to Howard in a game they led by 10 points with 2 minutes left. But Macon has a lot of schools desperate for a win right now and that is what will make it interesting. You don't think Mount de Sales HAS to get some early wins for that confidence level. And poor HOCO is reeling and has to find a way to score to upset Veterans.
It makes for an interesting week

I am 0-2 in my stone cold locks. I do pick out tough games for it but I am determined to improve. So I will take Veterans over HOCO. Believe it bet it do whatever you need to do. Veterans is a stone cold lock to win this game

Middle Georgia top 15

We had a few upsets last week and it is becoming a little more clear about who is good and who is not. I  don't have to drop teams down if they lost but I guess most times that will happen. I am starting to wonder how strong the football is in this area. Sure we have some good teams but the middle part may not be so good.
15)FPD- A shocking loss last week after a good win. Yes I thought they would win easily against Brookstone and because they didn't take care of business they tumble 6 spots to number 15. FPD will win the next four games because the teams they are playing are horrible, but then they run into Stratford. Enjoy the next four weeks guys because then it gets very very tough.

14)Northeast- Look at the Raiders start off at 2-0 with another win likely on Friday. Good coaches find ways to win games and that's exactly what Ashley Harden has done this year. He has an impressive little running back in Terrious Miles and a veteran quarterback in Nolan Ussery and the Raiders are playing good football.

13)Central- Oh how they gave away a game last weekend to Howard .I know I know great comeback by the Huskies but the game was over if Central did what they needed to do. They have so many offensive weapons that Donald Lamb will throw it every play, but the run game and defense has been anemic so far. Larry Harold has got to find some magic before this season gets away from him.

12)Perry- They enjoyed the off week and moved up in the poll. Peach County this week will test them. The Trojans are probably mad after losing last week.

11)Tattnall Square- another team that moves up despite not playing. The Trojans face East Laurens this weekend that could be more of a test than people think. EL is 0-3 but the three teams they have lost to have not lost a game this year. Tattnall need to keep gaining confidence.

10)Westside- The Seminoles have offensive issues and scored only three points against Northside. They have to find a way to score points if they want to win. Right now they are going through the growing pains of rolling with a young quarterback. But he will get better as the year goes by and so will Westside

9)Howard- The Huskies move up three spots after an amazing win over Central. They have some threats in Jeremiah Kelly and Quintin Sewell but the schedule, after this week, gets much tougher. A win over Rutland this weekend though makes them 3-1

8)Southwest- a tough loss to Manchester drops the Patriots one spot. They have to get that win over Central this weekend but they have lost to Central 9 straight times. I don't know if that streal doesn't reach 10.

7)Stratford- They won again and they will win again this weekend and they will probably not lose in the regular season . This team can keep winning for awhile. They do have LIncoln County in a few weeks and that may be a test.

6) Veterans- David Bruce has bounced back from a bad opening game loss and have now won to straight. The Pinckney to Horton combination has been heating up.

5)Northside- They came up with a pedestrian like 17-3 win over Westside and they remain at number 5. This is not your typical Northside team however, trust me on that one.

4)Mary Persons- Vey strong football team and that's all I have to say about them right now

3)Peach County- I think everyone was shocked when Warner Robins beat them . Its ok though non-region losses early in the year are just motivators. They will bounce back in a big big way.

2)Warner Robins- Evidently the "other" Fromm can play a little bit too. The Demons have finally loaded back up.

1)Jones County- The Hounds keep rolling  with no end in site. They are that good.

week 3 high school PIcks

Remember one thing when looking at the records of my group of pick-em experts.
It's early and I fully plan to be ahead of everyone by the end of the year.
Yes it is true that WMAZ sports guy Jonathan Perez has taken the lead with a perfect 7-0 record last week, but in all reality , I don't think that will last.
The kid just isn't that good.
Here are the records after two weeks
Jonathan Perez      11-3
Luke Hetrick         10-4
Evan Watson         10-4
Tucker Sargent      10-4
ME                          9-5
Brad Harrison         8-6
Mason Prince          8-6
Lola my Dog           7-7

Now it is possible that Jonathan could be Gloria Estafan's child so I am not sure he is not bringing in a professional help to get these picks done. He was obviously wealthy from the day he came to Macon from Miami and I know that for sure because hair product is expensive. But whatever he is doing I applaud him for being a second week leader. It is not against the rules of my contest to hire a professional to do your picks.

Luke Hetrick remains consistent with his picks and he is taking it seriously, and he pesters me about putting better games on the list every week. Evan Watson says he will never pick Windsor again after they lost to Covenant and Tucker is the last one to turn in his picks because he is doing graphs to try and figure out which team will put up the most offense and get defensive stops. He should be a scientist instead of a  sports guy.
MY picking has not been great but I will rebound this week as soon as I can figure out who wins the Central-Howard game.
Brad Harrison has been the biggest disappointment in the league so far, because he always did well in the Telegraphs pick-em. Maybe it has something to do with the lack of his picture being on the my blog.
As far as Lola my dog goes, the main issue she is having with picking the games is that she feels like she has to pick the team with the mascot closest to a dog. That means she basically picks the Huskies (Howard) every week. That worked last week but not the week before.

So here are this weeks picks
                                             Jonathan       Evan      Luke      Tucker
Westside-Northside             Eagles          Eagles    Eagles     Eagles
NE-Rutland                         Raiders         Raiders  Raiders    Raiders

WR-Peach                           Demons        Trojans   Trojans    Trojans
Wilco-Dublin                      Irish               Irish       Irish         Irish
Brookstone-FPD                 Vikings         Vikings  Vikings    Vikings
Tattnall- EL                         Trojans         Trojans   Trojans    Trojans

\\
                                             Kosater         Brad        Mason        Lola
Westside_Northside             Eagles           Eagles     Eagles        Eagles
NE- Rutland                         Raiders          Raiders   Raiders       Raiders
Central-Howard                   Huskies          Chargers Huskies      Huskies
WR-Peach                            Trojans          Trojans    Trojans      Demons
Wilco-Dublin                       Irish               Irish         Irish           Irish
Brookstone-FPD                  Vikings         Vikings    Vikings      Vikings
Tattnall- EL                          Trojans         Trojans     Trojans      Trojans

It doesn't look like we will have much movement this week as the games are mostly one sided. Central and Howard seems to be the best game of the week but who knows this early in the season. My stone cold winner last week with Central over FPD did not pan out at all, but I will get a win this week.  I mean its easy to get a win, just pick a crappy game. I wont do that though and I will stick to something decent.
Lets go Peach County, ranked number one in KOknows sports football poll, will beat Warner Robins. That my friends is a stone cold LOCK
