I have been thinking over the past few weeks about adding school in the area to who I rank but I am really not sure my reading group cares about the other areas in Middle Georgia. I have focused pretty much on what is going on in Macon schools athletically and I float around with 60 to 100 hits on most stories.
So what do I do ?
Well at least for this week I am going to give you the top 15 in Macon and surrounding counties.
Just know that the top two teams probably wont change all year, because, yes, they are that good.
15) Tattnall Square- Do you see a trend after the first team goes on here ? I don't think Macon private schools can play with the heavyweights of Middle Georgia. Sure FPD beat Central this week, but Central is not a great team. They are an average team. Tattnall is a good football team and will probably start the year 7-0 before getting in to the meat of their schedule. But hear me, this team does not have the weapons it had last year and will struggle down the stretch. Destin Mack can only do so much
14} Perry- The Panthers have a new coach and some skill players led by Jay Watkins and will be much improved this year. Kevin Smith was definitely a great hire for the Panthers. We will know right away just how good they are because they get Peach County next weekend.
13}Central- Shame on you for dropping the ball and losing to FPD. Shame on you for playing terrible for three quarters before waking up. Shame on you for having 21 seniors and playing soft for three quarters. If the Chargers play like that against Howard, they will quickly be 0-2 and heading for a three win season. Is Friday nights game really that big ? Oh yes it is.
12}Howard- The Huskies are coming off a win and any win is huge at this point after a one win season a year ago. I believe that they will get win number two in a hard fought game against Central this week. Howard has a man at linebacker in Deandre Shelton and I believe that the offense is full of little explosive players and this team is not a one win team. Win number two comes Friday.
11}HOCO- Yes HOCO has been destroyed two weeks in a row. Yes HOCO has looked as bad as any team in the area. Well ok but how would you feel about losing your starting quarterback on the third snap of the year. That makes for a tough start. I believe HOCO bounces back with a win against Eagles Landing
10}Westside- What a defense they have. They totally shut down Southwest but turned the ball over 5 times and lost the game. They can run with Lakelvin Clark but they have to be able to throw it and last Friday they could not. Time for Omar Jones to play to that potential and help the offense out.
9}FPD- Yes I will get some heat about having them so low and I will get more heat when they start the season off 6-0 against a cupcake schedule. But they will have to prove themselves to me in that seventh game, which is Stratford. FPD looked ok against Central but they were reeling at the end and held on for a win . That was after dominating for three quarter. I feel like Greg Moore did not want to show too much because he kept Dalton Cox from doing too much. FPD has two excellent receivers and should be able to spread the field but didn't do a whole lot of that last week. The most impressive player on the field was Wesley Wilson, who is a legit 6'7 300 pounds and is starting to realize his potential. Yes I think 9th is accurate.
8}Stratford- So I think Stratford is better than FPD ? Yeah I do and its just not Tobe Umerah. Stratford has an impressive offense that I don't know much about as of yet, but I will get to know them as the season goes on. They may not be undefeated when they run into FPD because they have some tough games, but I will go ahead and say right now that Stratford is the private school team to beat this season.
7}Southwest- Javoris Smith runs, Javoris Smith catches, Javoris Smith is the real deal. Add a MAN in the middle in Randy Green and a strong quarterback in Jordan Slocum and the Patriots are going to win some football games.
6}Veterans- I saw them lose and I saw how upset David Bruce was over the loss and the way they played. They followed up with a good win over Dublin. Leyton Pinckney is a winner and Jeremy Horton is that good.
5}Northside- Yes they are only number five, which means they are still very good. It is not easy replacing a Tobias Oliver and the Eagles are finding that out. They are a little down which means they will probably only win 9 games this year.
4}WRHS- Where there is a Fromm there is a way, where there are two Fromms you beat Northside. The Demons aren't all the way back as we will see against Peach, but they are much improved
3}Mary Persons- Brian Nelson is always good and that's all I have to say about that right now
2}Jones County- Teldric Ross is lightening in a bottle , a huge bottle that spills over on to the football field and some of it splashes on Drake Bolus, a big play threat every time he touches the ball. I wish we could somehow see Jones County play Peach County but I don't know if we have a stadium big enough to handle the crowd. These two teams are hands down the best two teams in the area and Justin Rogers should be getting offers from everywhere that wants to win.
1}Peach Counnty- Chad Campbell is loaded and it only starts with Kearis from Antonio. The defense is every bit as good. They , along with Jones County, would beat some of the schools on this list by 40 points.
So that's it, don't hate it don't agree with it, that's your choice, but read it please and tell your friends about it.

week 2 of high school picks
Obviously I had some tricky games on the schedule last week in our pick-ems, but I am kicking myself for not going with Warner Robins to beat Northside. Remember, never ever go against your alma mater.
So what was found out in the first week ?
1. Jones County is very good and Teldric Ross is very very good
2. Westside has weapons with Victor Dixon and Omar Jones and will be much better this year
3. Veterans looked terrible in the first week, but came back last night with a big win, which means David Bruce is getting it done.
4.Howard is better
5. I am ready for more high school football.
I actually have seen three football games. I watched the Jones County fastest show on turf display and they straight out just abused Houston County. Teldric Ross may end up being the best player in Middle Georgia this year, and until I see someone better I am going to stick to that claim. He makes everyone on the team better.
I had Veterans and Northgate last Friday and I still think Veterans should have won that game. David Bruce was not happy after the game, but he got his kids back on task this week as they Beat Dublin last night. The key for the Warhawks is to Pinckney to Horton combo. Horton had only three catches in the first week but went off big against Dublin. The man is a playmaker.
Last night I had Northside and they were not as impressive as I thought they would. I say that and they won 44-6, which says a little bit about the competition they played. I feel like this will not be a typical Northside team with 11 wins and a deep playoff run. You just cannot replace Tobias Oliver and stay elite. The Eagles are looking to get better and grow up, but with their schedule that could be tough.
So the pick- ems is off to a slow start because some of the games are kind of difficult. After one week this is how everyone looks.
Evan Watson 5-2
Luke Hetrick 5-2
Tucker Sargent 5-2
Koknowsports 4-3
Jonathan Perez 4-3
Brad Harrison 4-3
Mason Prince 3-4
Lola my dog 3-4
So the television guys did well and the writer guys are close behind. It is too early to see a trend, but I fully expect to be leading my own contest before long. TV guys tend to get bored easily and by the middle of the season they will falter. Well that may be true, but I am not sure about the boy band boy Evan. He is a true news guy so he may have better focus than sports guys.
Here are the pics for this weekend

We have some very interesting games this week and its only the start of the season. My guarantee stone cold winner this week is Central over FPD. Many aren't seeing that , but Central is packing 21 seniors this year and I believe they are the type of program that wont lose to a good team like FPD. It should be very interesting though

the world championships of macon pick ems
Well here we go with high school pick ems.
I will let you know that everyone got the picks in on time, but it is the first week so that may not have been too difficult.
Remember we pick only 7 games per week. That means we will only cover the best of Middle Georgia Football.
Winner wins the right to say he is the best picker in this contest. That's about it. I am more of a money person so I may have issues with staying motivated.
Here we go!

I hope this is not too hard for everyone to read but I am not a computer expert and spacing and language like that are tough for me. But hey I think it looks pretty damn good.
So lets take a look at the picks. Obviously nobody knows what to do with the Westwood and Windsor game or Veterans -Northgate game. I know that I don't. When I didn't have a clue I went with the local team. I was surprise to see Luke go against his Dirty Birds of Veterans because he loves the Dirty Birds. But I guess he knows something about Veterans that I don't know.
Jonathan really is just guessing because he has not been around here long enough and Boy Band Evan also goes against Veterans. I wonder how that pick went down. "Hey Luke I don't know how to picj the Veterans game, who should I pick. You are such a great sports guy and I need your help."
Tucker and Lola, (good Tucker you agree with my dog) got with the upset and pick Howard over Westside. Of course Lola did it because she picked all dog teams and a Husky is a dog, but Tucker really ?
Mason is loyal to his dirty birds but goes with Pacelli over MDS, which I guess could happen. I just went off how bad Pacelli was a year ago and I mean they were really really bad.
Ok I will see you all at Veterans tonight and looking forward to the high school season. Feel free to give these guys hell about the pics

here we go with pickems
So when I heard that the Telegraph would not be doing the Pick-ems contest (yes I loved having my picture in the paper) I felt like somehow I had to keep it going. So I decided to make it a part of my blog. Now the next thing I had to do was to think of a totally all-star cast of people the get people to see who they picked. If I just picked random people that no one knows how fun would that be ? I mean, not very fun right.
So to you, I announce this all- star cast of celebrities that have agreed to pick high school football games this year.
Luke Hetrick
I am happy to announce that Luke has agreed to play the game and I could put him down as an early favorite because he may know these teams better than anyone. After all the GXA people cover like 28 football games every Friday . I love seeing Luke at a game because no matter what I look like he throws the,' man you are looking good" line out. He is just a nice guy to drink a beer with. But if you are talking to him at a high school football game, don't blink because he will be gone. That's what reporters who are covering so many games do. His nickname will be Luke La Loosh for his boyish good looks.
Jonathan Perez
I also scored Jonathan, one of the WMAZ sports guys. How did I get him ? Well I texted him and asked him, although I am not sure he knows what he signed up for. I worked really hard to make it a news media type of thing. I mean I can't expect to score Frank Malloy can I ? Anyways JP will be my WMAZ rep and he is determined not to let the station down. He will go into the game with the nickname :Cuban Missile Crisis"
Evan Watson
The WGXA do everything guy has also agreed to be in the competition. I am fairly sure that when I was about 19 years old, I got very very intoxicated on this guys whiskey. Evan Williams Evan Watson its all about the same I think. I know he is on a camera covering high school football at times, but I am not sure his TCU background will make him very good at picking southern high school football games. I really added him because I thought he would help the female viewership of my blog. We will nickname him Boy Band because that is probably where he will end up.
Tucker Sargent
Yes I also scored the WMGT sports guy. Tucker is also in my fantasy football league and has the greatest name in the league with the Mother Tuckers. That barely edges out my name in the league which is Papa John. Tucker knows his football so he may be a player in this league, but I am not sure his station is open on the weekends so that could hurt. We will nickmae him INOV, whch stands for in need of viewers.
Brad Harrison
Yes I had to add good old newspaper people in here also. Brad is a freelancer just like me and has been covering games forever. I fully expect newspaper people to own this contest because although we are not as pretty, we are much smarter. Although he doesn't work there anymore we will nickname him NASCAR
John Kosater
That's me, the odds on favorite to win the pickems contest. Ko knows high school football and I want you to please remember that. Call me winner winner
Mason Prince
Mason has taken the airways by storm since his arrival in Macon and is known by the nicknames The Red Rifle of Broadcasting and the Fresh Prince of Macon Air. The rivalry between stations will be hot and heavy and Mason will be a leader on the broadcasting team.
Lola the dog
My dog loves high school football and I felt like she deserved a chance to pick high school football games. She is probably more qualified than at least half of the folks picking the games, plus I wanted to go after the dog population to ready my blog.
So the format is, we will pick 7 and only seven games a week. I will try and pick the 7 games that are most competitive in this area. Thus weekend was hard because we don't have many games but I am sure we wont have this problem again.
I will do my best to have all the picks up by Thursday night or Friday morning.

the truth is
The truth is, I can honestly say, is that
I AM NOT A HOMER
I have been accused more than once of favoring one school over the other but I just don't see that as being true.
I write on whatever hits me
Sometimes it hits me on Monday or sometimes on Saturday/
When it comes to my mind, I have to write it or I feel like I need to take a bath.
It does me no good I have found, to get my creative urge on Saturday, because if I write a blog on Saturday nobody reads it.
My purpose is still the same, I want people to read and enjoy what I write.
I tend to write on subjects that I am closest to and familiar with.
Famous people (Mark Fariba) tease me about being a homer for another school in Macon, but he knows it really is not true.
At least I think he does.
I will admit that sometimes I go really heavy on one school for a period of time and the reason behind that is simple. If I write a Tattnall story and it gets 300 hits and I write a Stratford story and it gets 50 hits, then what do I need to write about ?
I think the answer to that is clear.
I have put polls on twitter before like who is the best player and stuff like that. Well because of one small statement I wrote, I was basically was asked if I knew anything about football or sports in general.
Well the truth of the matter is, yes I know a whole lot about football and even more about sports in general.
I can talk in detail about the spread offense and what we want to get out of it, and I am a fan of the option and will be glad to tell you who is supposed to block who on most plays. I can talk about the 3-4 the 4-3 and most any other defense you want to talk about, and I can talk about skill sets of players.
I could also kick a field goal from 30 yards right now, today, and give me five kicks and I will make 2 out of 5 with no practice.
In short, I have forgotten more sports than most will ever even know, so please don't question my knowledge.
I love all the local schools I truly do, I have great friends at all the private schools, I have a great relationship with Joe Dupree and all the rest of the public school coaches, but I tend to write on what draws the most hits for my blog.
That's a natural thing right? If I write I like to be read.
Thanks for reading .

you think its easy ?
Imagine starting a new job where most people had been there already and you were expected to come in and make things better immediately.
To make things worse, things maybe were not even as nice as the job you had before and to make matters worse, everyone liked you and now its totally different.
I mean you were brought in to maybe even take some of the other employees jobs, so that could cause some hard feelings.
That is exactly what many of our bright young kids from Macon are trying to do right now.
Does anyone know what I am talking about yet ?
I guess I will tell you just in case you haven't figured it out, and I will use examples for what I am talking about.
Football along with classes, is basically Sean Browns job right now. He is a freshman lineman at Kennesaw State and is a product of Tattnall Square Academy. Sean Brown is a likeably guy who walked around the Square with a big smile on his face. But now he has started another job and that is to be a difference maker at the college level. Kennesaw State is a nice place with a new football program and I am sure they are treating Sean well. But imagine having to leave all your friends and take on a lofty goal such as playing college football. Sean is a likeable guy but he is dealing with some guys that are maybe 4 to 5 years older than him and may not like him trying to come in and earn playing time.
That is what these young people, such as Sean, Ahmad Barron, Jimmy Marshall, Thomas McBride, Torian Bradley McSwain, and Qua Solomon are having to deal with right now. They are walking on to college campuses with basically no friends and trying to find their way. These kids are not at major college programs and some of the places aren't as nice as the high schools they attended. Do you think Torian is looking at Saint Anslem and saying wow this is nicer than FPD. I seriously doubt it. But he has a dream of playing college football and if he had to go to Massachusetts to do it, then so be it.
I have talked to a few of these guys this week and I have heard of a couple of injuries, a little homesickness, and a lot of , you know its really hard but I'm gonna get through it. I haven't heard any complaining and the one constant I have heard is , I wanna make my parents and coaches and Macon proud of me . I want to succeed.
So when you sit down during football season and watch UGA or Tech or Southern, or whoever is your team, think of these kids from Macon who are trying to make a name at the smaller schools. Click on ESPN and see how Kennesaw, or Reinhardt, or Mercer, or Mars Hill are doing and look for these kids names. Hell even look for damn Saint Anslem.
They deserve it.

They deserve it.

high school football is almost here
K I am ready for the football season to start and I am ready for it to start now.
You see I am sure we have so many guys out there that deserve to be noticed that I don't even know about right now. But I will know about them soon enough. But after hours of research, I have what seems to be, a list of top returning starters and a few more, and I am ignorant enough to put them in some type of order as to how I think they will do this season. You can use it as a tool to laugh at me later on.
Now remember, its harder for me to know about a bunch of linemen at this time of year, but I did include some. Lets call this list my sweet preseason 17. Why 17 ? No reasoning whatsoever.
17) I love the big old boys who get lost during the game because they are doing big ole boy stuff, like clogging the run lanes on defense and blocking on offense. Zachary Cotton from Central is one of those guys. He is not too tall , around 5'8 but he is a stout 265 pounds and he will be a key contributor on both sides of the ball this year. But since he does what he does, you may not see his name in the paper all year long.
16) Jake Jamison- This guy is not rated higher than 16 because he is a kicker. But he is the best kicker in Macon and could be the best kicker that this area has seen in awhile. He is going to have another big year this year for Stratford.
15) Miles Morris_ Time for the Tattnall quarterback to step into the limelight after the Trojans lost the majority of their skill players to graduation.
14)Victor Dixon - I get rave reviews about Westside's new quarterback. He is only a sophomore but look for him to be the guy that makes the Seminoles go.
13)CJ Harris_ Did I say that FPD is loaded on the offensive side of the football ? If I haven't said it yet I am saying it now. Harris is the one who will have the ball in his hands when FPD wants to run. He could easily be a 1,000 yard guy this year. As I review I find that CJ isn't at FPD despite being listed on the roster. That's why preseason stuff is so hard lol
12) Jaquez Pennimon- Southwest guy with loads of talent. He will see the ball this year so watch out for his name.
11)Adrian Hardwick- The Mount de Sales running back is poised for a huge year if he can stay healthy. Last year he was rocked by Central in the opening game and was really never a factor as the Cavaliers season spiraled downward quickly. This is a new year and Hardwick's last chance to move his team out of the bottom tier and into a playoff opportunity.
10) Jordan Slocum- He is already a junior with two years of starting experience behind him. Its time for him to step up even more and lead Southwest to another trip to the playoffs.
9)Wesley Wilson- FPD has speed and skill players all over but Wilson is a 6'7 300 pound lineman with loads of talent. He is a good basketball player but watch for him to turn the corner as a football player in his junior year.
8) Destin Mack- This guy has a lot on his shoulders and will be expected to carry the load early for Tattnall. He has been great in a part time role but expect him to step up big on the offensive side of the football this year.
7)Omar Jones- Westside has this 6'5 talent to catch the ball or rush the passer. He is a college level football player for sure.
6)Armaun Smith-Another huge weapon for the FPD offense
5)Tyler Jordan- He is going to have a monster year for Stratford. I know this is true because I have heard it way too many times in the last few weeks.
4)Isaiah Goolsby- Another huge lineman at Southwest with the grades to go anywhere he wants.
3)Maurice Gordon- nothing like a 6'6 wide receiver who can run and has great hands. That's why I am so high on what FPD SHOULD be able to do this year.
2)Dalton Cox_ The best high school quarterback in the tough Macon bunch. He is perfectly suited for the offense he is running and will probably end up with about 30 touchdown passes this year. You gotta go see him once this year.
1)Tobe Umerah_ the guy has already signed with Stanford which makes him the easy number one. He may get bored this year because everyone will run away from him and triple team him. Big year for the Eagles.
So may were left out I am sure and I will do my best to get to everyone. I think I have given you some of the best for this year. Feel free to give me some more names to follow. Macon is very blessed to have this much talent and it should be a fun year. Remember these are Macon players only

sunday morning thoughts
Its that time of year
The time where every high school football team is undefeated with high hopes for the year, and every fan thinking this is the year for a state championship. All of the coaches use terms as "we just want to get better every time we practice" or "we are much stronger this year" or maybe even my favorite line "We are cautiously optimistic about our football team". That usually means it could be a long year.
I admit that I don't know a lot about anyone yet, but I assure you over the next 14 weeks I will know all of the standouts in the Middle Georgia area. I am excited about seeing Dalton Cox and "Viking Air Lines" throw the ball all over the field. I am anxious to see another Mark Fariba team play hard every minute, however I am thinking a few of the breakout guys this year are on that team. I hope that Keith Hatcher can finally get things turned around and have Mount de Sales compete with the big boys in private school. And finally can Tattnall possibly have another dream season with a dream coaching staff once again, but having lost Big Sean Brown, Jimmy Marshall, and the wonder kid Ahmad Barron.
Hopefully we have many other interesting stories this year. Southwest and Joe Dupree has a veteran QB in Jordan Slocum and they want to take the next step after making the playoffs a year ago. Central wants to show that they are better off with Larry Harold as the new coach and I have heard good things about the way things are going. Westside with Spoon Risper and from what I hear a red hot young quarterback will be much better than last year and I expect noise from Northeast, because new coach Ashley Harden just refuses to be a whipping boy to anyone.
I hear CFCA is playing 8 man football and I know Covenant has a veteran qb while Windsor had a new coach.
Makes for interesting stuff.
I honestly cant tell you where I will be this year , but I will be around high school football somewhere. I am not a homer, although I get called that all the time. I try and write about interesting things that are happening. Last year Tattnall was the story and everyone called me a Tattnall homer. The year before I was a Stratford homer because they were winning at everything. I am not a homer, I just want people to read what I write lol.
Macon will be blessed again with great coverage of all high school football. The Telegraph will continue to fight the good fight with a smaller staff that ever, and WMAZ will continue to blast out great high school coverage with Marv, and Jonathan while WGXA is on their heals with Luke and Mason , and Tucker from WMGT will cover everything he can.
Feel free to say hi and thanks to all of us. Its going to be a great ride this year
