High school baseball in Macon

If the truth be told, most of the public high schools in Macon could care less about baseball

If you believe that is not an accurate statement, one quick look at the overall records of schools of the schools in Macon over the last five years will prove the point
5 year records
 Northeast  3-48
Southwest  6-50
Central      17-60
Westside   33-78
Rutland     54-50
Howard    75-54

Two winning records out of the bunch.
I remember last year at the beginning of the year, I covered a Northeast-Southwest baseball game and I looked up the records over the last 10 years or so, and could not find more than 10 wins for either team over that period. Four out of the six public schools obviously are not worried about wining baseball games, because they have had the same coach for years and years despite all the losing.
Rutland had some success five years ago, and have a 13-5 record this year, but a lot of that is because they dropped down a class and are playing in what has to be the weakest region in the state. The Columbus schools along with Westside and Southwest make up for a lot of easy wins. But at least Wally Pritchard has put together a team that will make the state playoffs.
Howard has been the best baseball school in Macon for quite a few years, but Danny Slaughter has struggled this year. I saw them drop a 15-0 game last Friday against Veterans to drop them to 2-15, but I did see where they won back to back games against Northside and Baldwin to get them back to 4-15. Heck 4-15 is a good record in Macon Ga.
That's not to say that the private schools are not playing well. Even Mount de Sales, who has had issues winning games in the GISA, IS 11-3 this year, mainly because they get a schedule of region games against teams that aren't very good.  I have seen FPD play and they aren't too bad and they are also 11-3, but they have played Southwest and Westside four time. Stratford struggled early and from what I hear, they have no pitching whatsoever.
That leaves Tattnall Square as head and shoulders better than anyone in Macon. Of course that has been the case for the last 10 years probably, because they have Joey Hiller, a baseball coach coaching baseball.
I think all of the private schools will continue to win, and if you want to see good high school baseball games, watch the games when they play each other.
I will be trying to come up with the top 10 baseball players in Macon over the next week or so
