why anyone would want this job

Imagine going to work and every decision you make gets a quick complaint. I know some of you may have that going on every day but I am guessing that at least some of you go to work and actually like your job. So live with this scenario right here You come to work and the first thing you do is explain some pleasantries with some of the people you will be working with and also with some of their associates. You shake hands, smile, talk about how the day will go and then its time to get to work. Once work starts, all the niceness ends. You will exchange words with those same people you started the day with and sometimes those words aren't too bad almost nice, but other times those people are mad at you because of the way you are doing your job. Then there are the other people involved in your day. Lets call these the least important people at work but the ones who demand attention. Everyone has those pains in the asses at work but imagine the person with this job has a few hundred of them. And these people yell and call you names and pretty much complain about everything you do. So do you want to apply ? The job pays somewhere around 20 dollars per hour but it usually only pays about 10 hours a week with a lot of that work being on the weekend. That my friends is the job called referee. Now I must admit, I used to be a number one complainer during a basketball game back when my brother was one of the best coaches in this area. ( by the way I don't really care if you agree with that statement, his record proves it. I mean he did have a stretch when his teams went 128-22 over six years ?) I uses to sit pretty much behind the bench and the only thing surprising was that I never got thrown out of a gym. I was relentless and complained a lot. When he stopped coaching and I started covering games for the Telegraph, I looked at a basketball game in a different way, and I realized that although the officiating is sometimes not great, it was not nearly as bad as I thought it was. But what I really noticed is that the fans are brutally hard on these guys. Yes officials miss calls, but I truly do not believe they favor one team or another, which is me saying that officials do not cheat. I remember sitting in the stands when my brother coached and before they knew that the coach was my brother and I would listen to parents just rip him for what he did to try and win basketball games. You see, many parents do not believe a coach can coach as good as the average parent can. It does not matter who the coach is either, it can be the most experienced or the newest guy. Parents can be brutal. My advice is to leave them alone and let them o their jobs. Parents calm down, its okay. I promise you these coaches and referees want everything to work out and usually it does. This is a widespread issue and not just public or private schools. Its equally bad everywhere. Obviously I am talking about the 5% of the parents who make it bad for everyone. Most parents are very supportive of their teams and their coaches. But when we are talking about this a few bad apples does spoil the entire bag. You wonder why we see the same referees over and over ? Because my friends, who would want a job when you can never do anything right. Macon is blessed with some great teams and coaches this year, so love all of them. A team will eventually not win like they are supposed to , but guys, we have to face the facts that sometimes, its just not going to be a great year. That's okay though , support them like you want to be supported. So the next time you go to a game of any sort, walk up to the officials after its over and tell them they did a good job. Except if it was the referees in the NFL games yesterday. They make a lot of money to be mediocre
