I know that it is the summer and it is tough to get a great audience at this time of the year. I am hoping to blow this thing out of the water when football season starts and get some more readers. But I want to keep writing until then so I have to come up with things to write on. So today, I am going to write on the things that are important about me. These are not the every day questions one may ask me, because that would put you to sleep, but these are things the average person would not know about me. It is true, you may not care, but a few of you might at least smile one time when you read it.
I was born in Warner Robins in 1962. My claims to fame in that city are few. Let me see, I once scored 26 points in a basketball game when I was 12 years old. Of course I was as tall as I am right now,and with a father who stood only 5'4, there wasn't much chance that I would continue to grow. So that was pretty much the extent of my basketball career.
My best sport probably was baseball. I played on a 15 year old all star team that won state and district and lost in the regionals, and I started at first base and hit fifth. That team was loaded with talent, and included at least two players Mark Poston and Chris Pierce, that played minor league baseball. I played baseball at WRHS, but I was lazy lazy lazy. I was the token underachiever as an athlete. My biggest moment was when I was playing on that all star team and hit a grand slam in the semi-finals against a pitcher named TBONE. For that I got a quote in the paper, "It was a fastball, Kosater said. "I really wasn't trying to hit it out of the park I was just trying to make good contact." That was it, I was famous until the next ball game the next day.
I Just read the first part of what I wrote and if it bored me I am sure it has you too, so now I will just give you quick little hits and if you want me to expand what I said, feel free to make a comment.
# I am a lifetime sports fan who used to study baseball cards when he was young. I can give you stats of people you have never heard of.
#I am a part time sportswriter for the last six years. I started doing it because my wife hinted strongly to me that I needed to get s part time job, So naturally I tried to find something easy. Little did I know that I stress about my stories more than I do about my real job.
#My favorite story ever ? I think you all know that- Haley Gordon of course. As I have stated it is the only story I have ever done that hangs in my house.
#Most famous interviews ? Bobby Bowden, George Gervin, Demaryius Thomas, Kareem Jackson, Russell Henley, Jaime Kaplan, Ray Goff, just to name a few
#Worst feeling when writing- name spelled wrong is a killer that leaves me depressed for days. Or even worse, I gave a wrong name this year. Mary Persons was playing Perry, and the MP person threw a great game. However I botched the name and put a guy from the Perry roster instead. Whoops,,, it ruined my night
#favorite sports team- Queens and Brenau swimming of course. And since Hayden is working for them soon, the Star Aquatics swim team out of Greensboro NC
#Favorite food- Fried Chicken although I don't eat it very much anymore.
#Music I like.- Ok this is somewhat embarrassing- but I wont lie. Barry Manilow, the Carpenters, Neil Diamond, country music, old rock and roll. I know its weak but that's some good stuff man.
#my real job- I find mentally ill adults jobs in the community. I been doing that for 30 years and I am retired but I came back and work 32 hours a week.
#My golf game is horrible. But its not as bad as Wes Blankenships
#I like writing. It is relaxing and it helps me maintain my sanity. MY life is fairly boring except for the stuff my kids are doing, so writing gives me something to do.
# I will bore you talking about my kids, as I am very proud of the accomplishments.
#and I wont bore you anymore today. Thanks to the 10 or so readers in advance. If you want to know more just ask. I am an open book
How about doing a top 50 high school performance list using all sports or maybe a who should own the jersey numbers using high school players in all sports (you could make it up on those sports w/o jersey numbers. Or an All Kosater team from high school.
ReplyDeleteI've seen Manilow twice (1997-Louisville and 1999-Cincy) along with Tom Jones in 1998. I feel ya.
ReplyDeleteYou forgot a fun little experiment of football when you came to public school.
ReplyDeleteMr. Sowell these could be very difficult. I don't know half of the numbers, and a top 50 list is interesting but it sounds like a lot of work lol
ReplyDeletean all kosater team is more of a possibility
macon vol I don't know if we should be bragging about that
